Overview:
The MORS Certificate in Excel Functions for Data Analysts II is a five-day course that builds on the first Excel course. Designed for beginner to mid-level analysts, it presents additional Excel capabilities to manipulate data and conduct analyses. The course concludes with a Capstone Project that lets students put together everything they have learned during the course.
MORS has partnered with Virginia Tech to offer this certificate. Participants will receive a number Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon completion, in accordance with the number of contact hours determined by Virginia Tech.
Requirements: Computer equipped with Excel 2019 or beyond (anything before 2019 will not work), plus two add-ins that will be used in the course: Data Analysis Toolpak and Solver.
Objectives:
Through a combination of lectures and hands-on work, participants will learn a variety of different Excel tools and functions including:
- Working with Data: understanding data types; importing & cleaning data; manipulating & transposing data; working with data functions; and organizing data with additional sorting & filtering.
- Learning Additional Analysis & Data Query Capabilities: analysis charts, PM charts, in-cell charts, sparklines, & chart templates; and new logic, logical math, & lookup functions, plus additional pivot table capabilities.
- Creating Business Intelligence Reports & Dashboards with Power BI.
- Developing Dashboards with Excel and Templates & Forms

Mr. Kirk Michealson
Kirk Michealson is a retired Navy Surface Warfare Officer and an Operations Research Analyst. He is a retired Lockheed Martin Fellow for Operations Research Analysis and is a Fellow and Past President of the Military Operations Research Society (MORS). He recently fully retired, leaving him time to teach Certificate courses for MORS.
