Modeling & Simulation

Point of Contact

Lead: Mr. Brede Wegener (brede.j.wegener@lmco.com)

Overview

This CoP represents a sustained effort to continue the conversation among M&S practioners throughout the year. We will support presentations, conversations, and debate about new and emerging M&S tools, technologies, and methods especially as they support military problems. Members will help to identify common challenges in M&S in support of military analysis and how we may overcome them. Members are encouraged to share lessons learned within their organizations.

We will address common issues such as scoping problems, validation and verification, credibility, and the appropriateness of M&S within the military analytic domain. We will also discuss technical issues such as model design, implementation in tool sets, statistical significance, numbers of model runs, designs of experiments, and data availability. We will discuss simulation tools in support of strategic studies, mission studies, tactical studies, tradespace analysis, acquisition, and performance modeling in order to understand common themes in simulation execution and what tools are available and appropriate for differing scopes of analysis. The MORS working group for modeling and simulation (WG28) has been very popular for some time, and this CoP is an extension of that working group and supports the working group's activities at the annual symposium.
