CEO Search Announcement

The Military Operations Research Society (MORS) mission is to “Enhance the Quality of Analysis that Informs National and Homeland Security Decisions,” and is the premier government sponsored professional society for operations research analysts supporting national security.  MORS accomplished its mission by:

  • Conducting an annual symposium and focused special meetings throughout the year at which attendees share ideas and obtain peer review
  • Publishing the quarterly peer-reviewed MOR Journal and the quarterly Phalanx magazine
  • Providing professional development opportunities through in-person and distance learning certificate programs and courses
  • Fostering collaboration and networking through web-based Communities of Practice and networking forums

MORS programs are highly leveraged by the operations research community to help train and develop their workforce, identify emerging techniques, and serve as a cross service platform to address the national security community’s most challenging problems. MORS is led by an elected 28-member Board of Directors and supported by nine professional staff. MORS holds a DoD contract with funding from the Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and the Office of the Secretary of the Defense, and an additional Department of Homeland Security contract, which includes the Coast Guard.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the senior MORS staff position reporting directly to the President, Board of Directors. The CEO is responsible to the Board of Directors for overall management of the organization, including: all office operations, staff hiring and supervision, budget development, finance management, program development, and execution of an average annual operating budget of $1.6 million. The CEO works closely with the Board of Directors to develop and achieve the organization’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives. MORS CEO, Susan Reardon, has announced her retirement effective March 2021.

The position requires high level strategic thinking and planning, demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff, experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors, a history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results, and organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, and program development.  Candidates must have strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting; strong written and oral communication skills; and a strong work ethic with a high degree of energy. Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree desirable. Qualifications include: five+ years senior nonprofit, association, and or government management experience; ability to obtain and maintain a USG Secret clearance; available for travel (up to 25%); and experience directing and working in a virtual office environment. A relocation package is not offered. Start date March 2021.
