Are you forty-years old or less? Do you have less than ten years of experience within the National Security Community? If yes, you are an ideal candidate to join MORS as a Junior Analyst Member!
Junior analysts are currently participating in the following MORS events:
Annual Symposium – The foundation of MORS professional interaction is the Annual Symposium, held each year in June. Informal gatherings specifically for Junior Analysts occur throughout the event.
Community of Practices (cop) – Specific responsibilities of this committee include the following: Validate the need for new CoPs. Ensure continued growth and viability of existing CoPs. Identify CoPs that are no longer value added.
Continuing Education – Monitor and report to the Board of Directors on continuing educational developments affecting military operations research. Recommend to the Board of Directors continuing education related actions to be taken by the Society. Provide the MORS membership with continuing education, certification programs, and professional development opportunities.
Education and Professional Development Colloquium – This is a fully sponsored event –free to all attendees -- focused on students in OR and Junior Analysts. A small group of Junior Analysts are invited to share their career path experiences with the attendees, creating an ideal networking and mentorship opportunities.
Heritage – Members of the Heritage Committee should be interested in conducting interviews and writing articles for publications, as one of the major roles of the committee centers on the production of oral histories for MORS and the larger analytical community. In coordination with the MORS Office, maintain and update a historical record of members of the MORS Board of Directors, to include the office of Chief Executive Officer / Executive Vice President. In coordination with the MORS Office, maintain and update a record of the Fellows of the Society. Recommend to the Executive Council, through the Secretary of the Society, persons of interest for the oral history program. Execute any special task associated with the history, heritage, and traditions of the society as directed by the Secretary.
The Wayne P. Hughes Junior Analyst Award – Exclusively honoring the work by a Junior Analyst, the Wayne P. Hughes award recognizes excellence early in an analyst’s career.
Lunch & Learn Program – These short activities occur on an irregular schedule in the DC area. They are designed to provide OR analysts an opportunity to learn new skills and/or sharpen their existing analytical skills, focus on career development, and network with peers.
Membership – Develop and recommend to the Board of Directors policies related to membership in the Society. Review and make recommendations concerning appeals or requests for exceptions to membership rules. Nominate individuals to be elected as Fellows of the Society. Preserve, under the guidance of the Board and Council, the collective responsibilities of the Fellows.
MORS Emerging Technologies Forum (ETF) – The variety of topics, speakers, attendees, leaders, and distinguished guests will yet again be extensive. The meeting will be two days of unclassified technical presentations and discussions. With distinguished and dynamic keynote speakers from Yale University, General Motors, Mayo Clinic, and a host of others. There will be three tracks, leading professionals in each track will share their theoretical and applied research of revolutions in analytical techniques and operations research methods. The topic tracks will be different than last years, by design. These tracks will include plenaries, networking events throughout, and a mid-career focus panel.
MORSS Junior/Senior Analyst Panel – Each year, the MORS Symposium reserves a Special Session for Junior and Senior analysts to discuss perspectives and learn from each other.
Partner Relations – Develop/grow the MORS Partnership Program for organizations outside the government to deliver these members (i) exceptional exposure to National Security partners; (ii) opportunities to network with sponsor, industry, academic, FFRDC, or other think-tank professionals; and (iii) make recommendations to the MORS Board for Partner Relation program innovations
Prize And Awards – Formulate and recommend to the Board of Directors, through the Secretary of the Society, eligibility, judging criteria, and scoring procedures to be used in awarding prizes on behalf of the Society. Evaluate the available work of all eligible contenders for a given prize to be awarded on behalf of the Society. Recommend to the Executive Council, through the Secretary of the Society, the winner, if any, of a given prize to be awarded on behalf of the Society. Recommend to the Symposium Program Committee any criteria or any evaluation technique, which it believes to be useful in selecting quality work for presentation at MORS symposia. Update Prize process and procedures based on lessons learned.
Publications – Ensure the highest standards of excellence in military operations research by maintaining quality in all papers and publications disseminated under the aegis of MORS. Review monograph and book proposals and recommend appropriate monographs for publication by MORS to the Board of Directors. Recommend, for approval by the Vice President for Professional Development, referees to review monographs for professional accuracy and quality and make appropriate recommendations for changes to the editor. Monitor approved monographs through the publications process, review final monograph manuscripts and submit for final approval for publication. Monitor and review for quality proceedings of special meetings and other publications as directed by the Vice President for Professional Development.
Special Meetings – Special Meetings enhance the quality and effectiveness of military operations research by providing forums, in addition to the annual symposia, for professional exchange and peer criticism among practitioners and users of military operations research (OR). The topic of a special meeting should address a military OR issue and have a reasonable expectation of usefulness to the military OR community.
Special Sessions – The committee is responsible for the planning, execution, and administration of the working groups and composite groups, to include coordination as needed with the Symposium Committee.
Tutorials – Professional development tutorials are provided at almost every MORS activity throughout the year and at the Symposium. Tutorials given before each Special Meeting are designed to set the stage for the Special Meeting topic. A wide variety of tutorials are offered prior to and throughout the Annual Symposium in lunch time, half day and full day sessions.
Working Group/Composite Group –The committee is responsible for the planning, execution, and administration of the working groups and composite groups, to include coordination as needed with the Symposium Committee. Specific responsibilities include the following: Validate the need for new working groups and composite groups. Ensure continued growth and viability of existing working groups and composite groups. Identify working groups and composite groups that are no longer viable entities.
