Training Transformation: Analysis and Assessment in New Operational Environments

28-30 September 2004
at SAIC McLean Conference Center
Tower II
1710 SAIC Drive
McLean, VA 22102

Dear Colleague,

In today’s information age and new globalization environment, success is defined more by force adaptability and agility rather than solely by industrial age scale and scope.  Secretary Rumsfeld emphasizes this point in a recent Wall Street Journal article by stating, “We are fighting the first wars of the 21st century with a DoD that was designed for the challenges of the mid- to late-2oth century.”  Force Transformation, therefore, is about becoming more adaptable and agile thru application of rapidly evolving capabilities and technologies, and the Training Transformation (T2) initiative is a key enabler for the overall success of DoD Transformation.

At the 71st MORS Symposium in June 2003, Dr. David Chu delivered a challenge to the MORS community to conduct assessments and make recommendations to improve T2.  In response to this challenge, MORS has organized a Mini-Symposium/Workshop on “Training Transformation:  Analysis and Assessment in New Operational Environments.”

This Mini-Symposium/Workshop will be held 28-29-30 September 2004 in the SAIC McLean Conference Center, Tower II, 1710 SAIC Drive, McLean, VA.   Registration will begin at 0700 on Tuesday, the 28th.  You are invited to apply to participate in this special meeting.  Attendance will be limited by the space available.

An application form to attend the workshop is enclosed.  You may attend the first day Mini-Symposium only or participate in the full Mini-Symposium/Workshop.  Registration fees are:  Mini-Symposium only:  US Federal Government - $115; All others - $230; full three day Mini-Symposium/Workshop:  US Federal Government $225; All others -- $450.  A block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn, Tysons Corner, 1960 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA, 703-893-2100.  The room rate is $150 and is subject to applicable state and local taxes.  When you call to make your reservation, state that you are with the MORS workshop.  Cut-off date for rooms in the block is 6 September 2004.

The workshop will be at the Unclassified level.  If you present a paper, you need to fill out Form 712 AU or BU -- a MORS Disclosure Form -- and submit it to the MORS Office. All presentations must be UNCLASSIFIED AND APPROVED FOR PUBLIC RELEASE.  A Disclosure Form is attached.  Also enclosed is a copy of the Terms of Reference and a Draft Agenda.
