Purpose:
The
purpose of the Computing Advances in Military Operations Research Working Group
is to provide a forum for military operations research analysts to examine and
gain insight into the potential analytical and operational uses of existing and
emerging computer hardware/software technologies and methodologies.
This information exchange will enhance the availability and knowledge of
advancements made in the dynamic world of computer technology to practicing
Military Operations Research Analysts. This
Working Group focuses its attention on advances, concepts, methodologies, and
techniques rather than on any specific study results.
Discussion:
The continuous advances in
computing technologies include, but are not limited to, distributed interactive
simulations, applications of the High Level Architecture toward analysis,
parallel processing, object-oriented simulations, databases and their
manipulation as well as graphical user interfaces. Equally important are
methodologies which leverage these advances in support of joint analysis.
Additional topics include modeling advancements in areas such as virtual reality
processes and systems, terrain, weather, and other environmental effects
pertinent to simulations. Artificial
Intelligence and expert system techniques are also inclusive to this working
group as they pertain to Military Operations Research. Members are challenged to
reflect on how the advances described in their presentations will enhance the
analyst's capability.
Other Working Groups: The Computing Advances in Military Operations Research
is a key member of Composite Working Group G, Advances in Military Operations
Research, with close affiliation with the Modeling, Simulation and Wargaming,
Warfighting Experimentation, and Decision Analysis working groups.
