PURPOSE: The purpose of the Modeling, Simulation, and
Wargaming (MSW) working group is to present and discuss the concepts and
methodologies used in Modeling, Simulation, and Wargaming as these techniques
apply to the solution of Military Operations Research/Systems Analysis problems.
DISCUSSION: Working Group 29 provides a forum for the
exchange of information on modeling, simulation and wargaming ideas and
concepts, technologies, and analytical education in the support of strategy,
doctrine, force structure, weapons, systems and requirements
generation/validation for military decision making. The Working Group focuses
its attention on the concepts, approaches, methodologies, and techniques rather
than on any specific study results.
It maintains cognizance of the state of the art in modeling,
simulation and wargaming as it applies to military operations research/systems
analysis as its primary goal. It connects the historical past and the
developments of the early OR pioneers to the present issues which include
innovations in computer languages, man-machine interfaces, mathematical
algorithms, empirical model development, artificial intelligence, and modeling
philosophy. It seeks to give forums to those who are pushing the "edges of
the MSW envelopes" and recognizes the merit of "group-wise"
future thinking. Its secondary goal is to support the development of suitable
means for model, simulations, and wargame verification and validation.
Working Group 33 will address sponsored topics as assigned to
help achieve solutions to specific modeling, simulation, and wargaming problems
posed by MORS sponsors.
Peer review of presentations is an important part of the
function of this working group. Where appropriate, this working group will
formulate and report its opinion(s) in a formal briefing or report.
OTHER WORKING GROUPS: Due to the rapid development in
changes to military operations, working group ties will be maintained with
Space/C4ISR, Joint Warfare, and Measures of Effectiveness working groups.
