Working Group 15 Charter
Air Warfare
(Last Updated 30 August 2007)
Purpose: The purpose of the Air Warfare Working Group is to provide a forum for discussions and presentations that relate to the conduct and analysis of air warfare, the employment of air power, the effective utilization of all relevant sub-systems, and the integration of air assets in joint and combined operations.
Discussions: Topical areas for discussion in this working group relate to the employment of air power to achieve specific desired effects that contribute directly to the achievement of military and political outcomes and objectives. The primary focus is on conventional combat missions intended to destroy, degrade, or disrupt enemy forces. These missions include Counter-Air (Offensive and Defensive), Counter-Land (Close Air Support and Interdiction), Counter-Sea, and Strategic Attack.
The emphasis of the working group presentations is on applications, analyses, tools, concepts, and methodologies that improve our understanding of the dynamic phenomena of air warfare and the myriad of factors that impact success. These factors include air vehicles, air-delivered munitions, emerging technologies, countermeasures, concepts of employment, doctrine, tactics, techniques, procedures, battle management, command and control, rules of engagement, combat identification, threats, operating environments, proficiency, and air operations planning.
Peer review of the analytical techniques and results will be an important element of the working group activity. The Air Warfare Working Group will also address sponsor topics, as assigned, to help achieve solutions to specific air warfare challenges posed by MORS Sponsors.
Other Working Groups: Frequent joint sessions are held with other working groups with similar analytic problems and overlapping mission areas. While most of the MORS working groups have potential linkage with the Air Warfare working group, the following are particularly suitable for joint and composite sessions and presentations: WG-01: Strategic Operations; WG-04: Air & Missile Defense; WG-06: Battle Management/Command & Control (BMC2); WG-11: Unmanned Systems; WG-12: Land & Expeditionary Warfare; WG-13: Littoral Warfare & Regional Sea Control; WG-14: Strike Warfare & Power Projection; WG-17: Joint Campaign Analysis; WG-21: Readiness; WG-22: Analytic Support to Training; WG-24: Measures of Effectiveness; WG-25: Test & Evaluation; WG-26: Analysis of Alternatives; WG-28: Decision Analysis; WG-29: Modeling & Simulation and Wargaming; WG-32: Warfighter Performance & Social Science Methods; WG-33: Analytical Rigor in Experimentation.
