Working Group 1 Charter
Strategic Operations

(Last Updated 11 July 2002)

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Strategic Operations Working Group is to provide opportunity for military operations researchers to examine topics and analyses pertaining to strategic operations.

DISCUSSION: The topics and analyses examined by this group involve a mix of strategic and non-strategic nuclear and non-nuclear operations to include issues and analytic methods. Of special interest are the tools and analytic methods used to analyze weapons effectiveness and how employment of nuclear and non-nuclear weapons could change with the new world order. Issues of continued interest are the synergies of strategic forces, command and control, targeting of mobile forces, targeting of hard and deeply buried structures, and utility of nuclear and non-nuclear forces in deterring the use of weapons of mass destruction by another country.

OTHER WORKING GROUPS: Joint sessions are encouraged where topics are broad enough to be of interest to more than one working group. Past joint working group sessions have included Arms Control, Strategic Command and Control, and Gaming and Simulation.
