New MORS Junior Analyst AwardFor years many junior analysts have attended the Junior/Senior Analysts Sessions at the Annual Symposium to hear the senior leadership in military Ops Research talk about developing a good career in this field. In more recent years, MORS developed a junior analyst mentor program where Fellows of the Society share their experience. Both of these efforts continue to make a difference in the careers of the junior military analysts, both military and civilian. In neither of these has MORS been able to recognize the contributions of the junior analysts. Under Jack Keane's leadership, the MORS prize committee is embarking on a new endeavor this year, creating a Junior Analyst Award to recognize analysts who are already making an impact on Operations Research. We have asked MORS members in Industry, Academia, and Government to identify one or two potential candidates in their organizations and track them in a mentor-protégé relationship this year. We are seeking recommendations from the mentors by 30 March 2008. The committee will down select the award recipient in April and we will present the award at the US Coast Guard Academy during the opening ceremony of the MORS Symposium. Specifically, a candidate for an award may be nominated by a mentor from their organization who knows the quality and breadth of the work done by the junior analyst. The mentor should submit relevant information in no more than two pages on the candidate, including his/her date of birth, education, work experience, and reasons for the nomination in relation to the selection criteria. Selection criteria:
If you know of a junior analyst in your organization who meets the above criteria, consider mentoring them and nominating them for this award. All recommendations should be sent to: annie.patenaude@osd.mil by 15 April 2008. |
